FROM CITY GIRL TO SUBURBANITE: MEET WELLNESS ENTHUSIAST AND GREEN GUARDIAN, KELLY BONANNO!
Kelly left her career in network television to raise her kids. Savvy Suburban was born out of Kelly’s undying thirst for knowledge, especially about health, wellness, and an eco-friendly lifestyle. Although she has written for various magazines and websites, she wanted to build a content platform that was more personal and the right avenue to share what she has learned so far.
Growing up in California, she was provided a fairly healthy lifestyle by her parents. That’s why being health-conscious comes naturally to her. She decided to amp the ante as a greener person when she finally became a mother. With loved ones to protect and nurture, she learned that green living is not just a buzzword. She realized its importance of embracing the eco-lifestyle – not just for our health and our well-being, but also for our planet.
She is on a mission to make the world a greener place by educating people about the risks one takes with beauty products laced with toxic chemicals. These chemicals in our everyday products pose hazards to our health and the environment. Kelly also provides her followers with some healthy alternatives.
Kelly begrudges the fact that there exists no regulation on personal care and beauty products, which is why manufacturers are free to put anything they want in their formulations, regardless if it’s a known carcinogen or endocrine disruptor.
The prevalent use of the words ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ when the products themselves contain toxins. These are marketing claptraps that companies are allowed to use however they want. Kelly advocates consumer vigilance by carefully reading the labels and knowing which ingredients they need to avoid. She believes there are safe lines out there.
People have difficulty adopting a sustainable lifestyle because they tend to be afraid of what they don’t know and are fundamentally resistant to change.
She says: “Many environmental issues are complex and making changes can be daunting but knowledge is power. It’s actually far easier than people think and even small changes can make a big difference.”
The key is educating yourself by learning how to read labels and avoid toxic products.
