iSavvy Song Of The Week: Prince

I’ve had Prince songs running through my head all week…

Prince is an iconic cultural legend whose music defied definition, transcended genres and makes us all want to get up and dance. A legend that is gone way too soon.

He was a musical genius who championed for women in the music industry. A trailblazer and true humanitarian. Not many people realize that he created Yes We Code, Green For All and supported countless charities and foundations.

“I can’t disguise the pounding of my heart, it beats so strong… It’s in your eyes, what can I say, they turn me on”

I’ll never forget locking eyes with him at Erewhon Natural Foods in Hollywood when I worked at CBS circa 1999 (yep). His presence was undeniably electric & dynamic.

Thank you, Prince, for the beautiful and fucking fun music that is part of the sound track of my life. #RIP ?

I could not get enough of Purple Rain, that CD was on endless play back in the day. There are countless phenomenal Prince songs I LOVE that bring back some seriously good memories. These are not only a few of my favorite Prince songs, they are some of my favorite songs of all time…

iSavvy Song Of The Week ~ Low

Okay, I’m throwing it back a bit for iSavvy this week, but this song is just getting me going lately! I’m going out dancing with a bunch of friends tonight, I hope they play this song! Flo-ida’s songs always get me going and when you mix in T-Pain you can’t go wrong, can you?

Not only is he a great talent but whenever I’ve seen Flo-ida interviewed he comes across very likable.

“Them baggy sweat pants and the Reebok’s with the straps… She turned around and gave that big booty a smack. She hit the floor, next thing you know…”

#iSavvy Song Of The Week ~ Talking Body

“Now if we’re talking body… You got a perfect one, so put it on me. Swear it won’t take you long if you love me right… We fuck for life, on and on and on”

Do you have a song in your head nearly all the time like I do? This week’s iSavvy song, Talking Body by Tove Lo is swirling around my head lately. This chick is kinda badass. There is something about her that makes me want her around for girl’s night out, ya know? You have an open invitation Tove, anytime.

“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent” `Victor Hugo

Have you checked out my first two iSavvy posts? I featured great songs along with some excellent reasons to keep the music blasting during your workouts. I’m just about to go for a run right now as a matter of fact, these songs will be listened to.  #motivation

#iSavvy Song Of The Week ~ Come Get It Bae

“There comes a time when the feeling will grab your wrist . You’ll need a sugar fix, baby. There comes a time, and you won’t believe what you’ll do when that sugar’s calling you…”

My second installment of iSavvy is a song getting regular play during my workouts, Come Get It Bae by Pharrell Williams. I’m loving everything Pharrell at the moment. Miley’s a nut but the girl’s got a cool voice.

Those of you who are regular readers know my aversion to cooking (the major aversion is really to all the freaking dishes!) but when I have music on, it’s far more tolerable. Try it. Music makes everything better.

Be sure to check out my premiere of iSavvy, I featured one of my current fave songs, One Republic’s Love Runs Out long with some good reasons to blast those tunes during your workouts.

#iSavvy Song Of The Week ~ Love Runs Out

e713c7d1424563592116c7b119c56f8b“I’ll be your ghost, your game, your stadium. I’ll be your fifty thousand clapping like one. And I feel alright, and I feel alright ’cause I worked it out…”

Like nearly half of the American population you might have made a New Year’s resolution to get in better shape. Moving your bod never goes out of style.

It a non-negotiable for over all health. It’s common knowledge that the benefits go way beyond helping you look hot in a bikini. It’s essential for mental well being and longevity. I feel incredible after a good session on the elliptical or a morning jog but music is a must have to keep me going.

Research has shown that certain types of songs, particularly those with strong lyrical affirmations can give you the physical and mental boost you need to keep going.

So plugging into your iPod doesn’t necessarily mean mindlessly checking out, certain songs can help you keep focus. And let’s face it, music staves off workout boredom so you can keep going. Frankly, just playing whatever song your in the mood for helps!

According to a study in journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise the right tunes can make your workout seem less strenuous. The researchers believe it’s likely because putting the focus on keeping time with the song keeps the mind off the pain.

I don’t need any research to back up the fact that music just makes it more fun. Music makes everything more fun.

In this new Savvy Suburban series I’ll share songs that get me going so they just might help motivate you to go the extra mile in your efforts to get in your best shape ever.

My pick for the premier post of iSavvy is my favorite at the moment… Love Runs Out by One Republic. I just can’t stop playing it!

What songs motivate you to go the distance during your workouts?
