“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase” -Dr. Martin Luther King
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” King gave his famous speech at the Lincoln Memorial in August, 1963, to a group of civil rights supporters at the March on Washington. He was the first black American to receive Time magazine’s Man of the Year honor in 1964, he also won the Nobel Peace Prize that same year. He was the youngest to win the award, upon receiving it, he announced that he would use the prize money to further the civil rights cause. King was instrumental in desegregating buses in Montgomery, Alabama in the mid-1950s. He helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and served as its first president in 1957.
This inspirational man who led the civil rights movement championing the cause to end segregation and fight racial discrimination is the first and only U.S. Citizen to have a national holiday named after him. He graduated high school at the age of 15, received a B.A. from Morehouse College in 1948 and attended Boston University where he received his Ph.D. in systematic theology in 1955. In 1960, he followed in the family footsteps and became pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. It is believed that he said he would not live to 40. Sadly, King was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee in April of 1968 at the age of 39.
“Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last” -Dr. Martin Luther King

Do you know which item of clothing is donated the least but needed the most? Bras. It doesn’t occur to most of us to donate our bras because we think ‘who would want a used bra?’ But the reality is that there are thousands of women in need who could use a few good over the shoulder boulder holders so it’s time to clean out your lingerie drawer ladies (cross dressers, female impersonators…!) because Soma Intimates is once again having their very worthwhile drive.
Music makes the world go round, it's a necessity in life. It adds a fun vibe to whatever you're doing and just makes life happier. My taste is rather eclectic, you'll find all types of music on my iPod. Getting my groove on makes workout sessions, house cleaning and cooking dinner far more tolerable. My iPod is one of my prized possessions. When it's not blasting music from the dock, having the right ear phones is a must.

As the temperature outside is steadily dropping, we must adjust our skin care regimen
accordingly. Perhaps you haven’t been the kindest to your skin this past summer (i.e.,
marinating yourself under the sun’s cruel rays…yikes). Hopefully, that was not the case,
but whether you were skin and sun savvy or not, the changing climate does affect the skin
and it is imperative to transition your skin into more winter-ready products.
Swap Sunscreen For…
Absolutely nothing! Sunscreen is a must all year round, every day- regardless of how cool or cloudy it gets outside. It is crucial to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 15. Moreover, choose a sunscreen that contains a physical barrier like zinc oxcide, not a chemical barrier and natural ingredients such as green tea or aloe. The ultraviolet radiation is still there, rain or shine, summer or winter. It’s a skin sin when people assume that sunscreen is only needed for beach or summer days.
Exchange Lightweight Moisturizer For…
A slightly heavier formula. The colder months can be drying to the skin and a richer
moisturizer will help keep the skin hydrated and healthy. Try one that contains natural,
good-for-your-skin moisturizing ingredients such as seaweed or avocado oil. If you
experience serious dryness, consider switching your night moisturizer to night cream
products specifically formulated to battle the effects of colder weather and dry heat.
2012 was a difficult year for many people. It seems nearly everyone I know was touched by some type of loss or illness. We unfortunately suffered a tragic loss in our family. I haven’t yet written about it but the last few months of 2012 were not easy. A devastating accident took the life of my beautiful mother-in-law, Diane Bonanno.
While on vacation with my father-in-law in one of her favorite places, Hawaii, a huge wave about 15 feet high slammed her to the ground, shattering her neck. This very active woman, young for her years who hiked and did yoga was, in an instant, a quadriplegic.
The next 3 and a half weeks were difficult and scary. We prayed for miracles. She fought hard, her will to live was strong but after many complications, she passed away just before Thanksgiving. My husband lost his mom. The outpouring of support and prayers from friends during this ordeal was overwhelming. We had a beautiful service for her just before Christmas. My husband, his father, sister and both brothers spoke from their heart, it was exactly what I think she would have wanted.
I am blessed to have known her. She was a beautiful person inside and out… kind, generous, thoughtful, spiritual, loving. Diane was a wonderful mother and an amazing grandmother who had a special relationship with each of her 10 grandchildren. She was full of love and helped people her entire life, always giving of her time and talents.
The medical staff in both hospitals said she was special. They rarely see so much love and support from families and visitors. They appreciated how kind and polite she was. Her behavior was a pleasant surprise for them as they expressed to the family how rare it is for patients in her condition to even smile. Another testament to her generous and loving spirit.
I loved being her daughter-in-law. We were very close and fortunately had none of the typical issues most women have with their mother-in-law. I could really talk to her and be myself, I always felt like she ‘got me’. I’m lucky we bought our home when we did because some of my last memories of her are how much fun we had shopping for new items for our home and decorating it together. My father-in-law said it best at her service, “all of my 3 sons are mamas boys and their wives still love her!” She loved deeply and everyone felt her love. A light in our lives dimmed way too soon.
“The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

I signed up for the course to educate myself on how to make smarter choices about the products I use on myself and my family. Prior to taking the class, I was frustrated with all of the misleading information out there. There are many products I was using that claimed they were ‘clean’ when in fact they were green washed. The class taught me how to outsmart this type of marketing and purchase safer products by providing me with an understanding of the specific chemicals to avoid. I can now look at the back of a label and recognize these harmful chemicals. As a registered nurse, I found value in her application of the endocrine system because it emphasized just how these chemicals can be dangerous to our bodies. Kelly helped me gain a much better understanding of clean products, how to protect myself and my family, and inspired me to spread the word. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to create a healthier lifestyle. Since taking it, I have switched over many products I was using and now feel so much better about putting them on my kids knowing they are clean. ~Shannon E., Pediatric ICU Nurse & mom of 2
Even if you think you are a well-informed, up to date or a life long health and wellness zealot you will learn something new and informative from Kelly Bonanno’s ‘The Savvy Girl’s Guide To Organic Beauty.’ This is an eye-opening course exploring and breaking down the safest and most toxic products, ingredients, formulas and chemicals found in the everyday products. Kelly cuts to the chase and takes the confusion out of our beauty, household and health related consumer products in a clear, concise manner. I guarantee you will learn something you didn’t know before. Your body, mind and spirit will thank you for it. ~Eva S., Creative Director/Writer/Producer
I was struggling with allergic reactions on my skin caused by something in the products I was using. During the course, I learned how toxic everyday cosmetics and cleaning products can be. One thing that I liked was learning specifically which products I was using that could be causing my skin rashes. Overall, I found the experience very educational and helpful. It raised my awareness of products that I should avoid. I am better because I was able to use alternative products that Kelly recommended, thus avoiding the products that were causing the skin rash. Now I feel great and my skin has cleared up. I no longer have to rely on harmful steroid prescription ointments to relieve the skin rashes. Kelly, thank you so much for solving this aggravating problem with your knowledge of the harmful ingredients in everyday cosmetics and household cleaning products! ~Tracy D., Founder, Tracy Naturals
Kelly’s course should be on the ‘must do’ list for anyone looking for a place to begin their journey to wellness by adopting a non-toxic lifestyle. I came into the course with a fair amount of knowledge about a toxin free lifestyle, but this course took me to a new level of understanding and awareness about the issue in all areas of my life. Kelly’s passion is real, her delivery is upbeat, and the information she imparts can be life changing. Not only does ‘The Savvy Girl’s Guide To Organic Beauty’ provide valuable information on the bad stuff, it provides an impressive list of alternative product choices to help you get a quick start on going non-toxic! Kelly has done the work for you and will even offer you concierge service to help you create a plan to eliminate the unsafe chemicals from your home. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and sign up for this course! ~Tamra G., Owner, The Studio of Tamra Glaser & mom of 2
I signed up for this course because I was struggling with knowing which products were truly pure and organic. Kelly taught me which ingredients to avoid and why. I feel so empowered now! ~Marianna S., Mom of 4
